Spady Partner Darius Daughtry Receives $10K to Further Cultural Arts and Education

For Darius Daughtry, the moment called for contemplation. Sitting in the theatre of the Pérez Art Museum Miami on December 2, the founding director of Art Prevails Project thought about how he would invest the $10,000 his arts organization was about to receive.
Art Prevails Project (https://www.artprevailsproject.org/), a collective of poets, singers, writers, performers and dancers, was selected by Knight Foundation Arts Champion Nikisha Williams to receive the funding. Williams, chief operations officer of Opa-locka Community Development Corporation, was one of 21 local leaders chosen by the Knight Foundation to invest in artists and organizations close to their heart.
“We are grateful for Ms. Williams finding Art Prevails Project worthy of this donation. These funds will support our arts education programming and allow some deserving but under resourced youth to explore their creativity,” Daughtry said. “Additionally, we’re earmarking a portion of this funding to help mount a theatrical production, The Happening: A Theatrical Mixtape, Volume III, an interdisciplinary performance that addresses important social issues.”
Daughtry and Williams joined an audience of more than 700 at the announcement of the winners of the 2019 Knight Arts Challenge. This year, 44 artists and arts organizations will share more than $1.8 million to bring their ideas to life. Learn more at kf.org and congratulations, Darius!
